For many gun
owners, a shotgun or rifle is a seasonal firearm. When the
hunting season ends, the shotgun or rifle goes into storage,
often for several months, until the next season starts and it
then becomes time to remove the firearm from storage.
But your firearm
requires protection even when it in storage as a case or
cabinet is not sufficient protection for your shotgun or
rifle. Corrosion can destroy your firearm if it's not properly
stored.
It is critical to
always clean your firearm's bore prior to long-term storage.
Next up, be sure to scrub the action with a good
lubricant-cleaner using a soft bristled brush like an old
toothbrush.
Once the action is
thoroughly cleaned, it is wise to degreasing it with a
high-quality degreaser. Follow that up with a light
coating of high quality gun grease in all wear areas.
Your nest step is
to spray the action with a dust coating of a quality water displacement
product.
When remove your
firearm from storage, simply run a wet patch down the bore. Follow
that up with a dry patch. Lastly, wipe it off.
